Machine Gun Kelly has released his latest studio album, Mainstream Sellout.
Mainstream Sellout is the follow-up to MGK's chart-topping ticket to his downfall, Tickets to My Downfall, from 2020. It features Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Willow, Gunna, Oliver Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon, Iann Dior, Blackbear, Landon Barker, and his friend Pete Davidson. On that record, MGK moved away from hip-hop in favor of a style more in line with pop-punk, and he continues that here as well. Travis Barker is also heavily involved in Mainstream Sellout, as he was with Tickets to My Downfall.
Before the album came out, MGK teased it with his iPhone-shot video for his Lil Wayne collab “AY!” and “Emo Girl” with Willow, which includes a brief but sweet sample of dialogue from Jennifer's Body starring his fiancée, Megan Fox.
“The concept is that the ring can come apart to make two rings. When it’s together, it’s held in place by a magnet,” MGK said of the engagement ring he gave to Megan. “You see how it snaps together? And then it forms an obscure heart. And you see this right here? The bands are actually thorns. So if she tries to take it off, it hurts.”
As well as music, MGK is also an actor, and he has a project coming out this year. In addition to staring in Andrew Baird's upcoming action-thriller One Way with Kevin Bacon, he will direct Mourning with a U at some point. He has appeared in films including The Dirt as Tommy Lee, The King of Staten Island as Pete Davidson, and more recently, Jackass Forever.
Travis Barker, Trippie Redd, Avril Lavigne, and more will take part in his tour in support of the album.
